Project: Website Design and Build
Designing a next-gen digital presence for maritime DefenceTech.
When fast-growing maritime defence company, Kraken Technology, approached us, they were ready to take their digital presence to the next level. Their team had made significant strides in maritime threat detection, unmanned systems, and naval integration, and they wanted a website that reflected that innovation.

The existing site had served them well during early growth, but with increasing attention from defence stakeholders, investors, and procurement officers, it was time for a platform that matched their momentum and ambition.
Discovery & Research Phase
We began with a comprehensive research and discovery phase, involving stakeholder interviews, competitor benchmarking, and deep analysis of how defence users engage with digital platforms. We also conducted usability testing on the old site and mapped out the full information architecture to identify where users were dropping off or missing key content.
Our findings revealed a need for improved content clarity, streamlined user journeys, and a visual system that conveyed technical credibility without overwhelming visitors.
Design System & Architecture Overhaul
Using insights from our research, we developed a robust, modular visual design system rooted in precision engineering, clarity, and trust.
This included custom iconography from CAD drawings, improved brand photography, and a wider image asset library inspired by naval and aerospace systems. The goal was to signal innovation while maintaining seriousness and authority.
In collaboration with Kraken’s in-house branding team, we completely restructured the website’s information architecture. We grouped content into clearly defined user pathways, whether for investors, defence buyers, or technical partners, and prioritised ease of access to product information, company credentials, and industry recognition.
Outcome & Results
The redesigned website launched with minimal downtime and immediately gained positive traction.
Feedback from defence procurement advisors, existing clients, and key investors was overwhelmingly positive with the new user experience praised for how clearly the company’s complex offering was now explained.
For us, this project demonstrated how thoughtful UX design and strong visual identity can create real strategic value, even in highly specialised, technically demanding industries like defence.
